A majestic site with wide open spaces, numerous ballcourts and bas-reliefs, and particularly impressive for the Pyramid of the Niches, with its 365 niches, El Tajín has long been a source of fascination to specialists in Mesoamerican calendar systems and world view.

It was an important ceremonial center with influences from several cultures, particularly the Toltec. Franciscan sources say that around 1632 the indigenous people continued to make offerings to the pre-Hispanic deities on these altars.

A site with magnificent architectural complexes, such as the “Great Acropolis” and impressive constructions, above all the “Building of the Five Floors." Edzná’s inhabitants developed a complex water management system to secure a year-round supply, and their city became a powerful regional capital between 400 and 1000 AD.

The legacy of the past grandeur of this site is an expansive plaza and splendid buildings, some decorated with carved masks. Remains of paintings have also been found, showing hieroglyphs and gods of the Maya pantheon.

This site in Arid-America, where the original farmers constructed their city in the caves, eight centuries ago. The steps, adobe walls, roofs made of woven palm, stylized figures of animals, pinewood beams, everything is beautifully integrated into the landscape.

This is the most important pre-Hispanic settlement of those explored so far in the state of Puebla, and one of the main sites in Mexico. Its attractions include the Great Pyramid and the plaza known as the “courtyard of altars.”

At the time of the equinoxes, the shadow of Kukulkan, the serpent, descends from its temple to fertilize the earth, while the red jaguar is hidden in the Temple of the Warriors, with its jade spots glowing. This ancient capital city has been declared a World Heritage Site.

An imposing city with a long history before our era, it rises from the Altiplano (high plateau), with outstanding reliefs, clearly influenced by the Olmecs from the distant Gulf coast. The buildings display a strength that has outlived the centuries.

In the heart of the Lacandon jungle, Bonampak is famous for its extraordinary murals, which show scenes of war, paying tribute and the capture of prisoners for sacrifice.

A powerful regional capital, as evidenced by its monumental constructions, Becán also boasts something found nowhere else in the Maya area: a fosse surrounding the site’s most important buildings, which has seven entrances.
