Located very close to San Martín Texmelucan, the origin of the early settlers is unknown. A fortified site with a strong Olmec influence, it maintained trade relations with a number of villages in the Puebla-Tlaxcala valley. Most notable are the plinths built on the edge of the ravines.

The prosperous city of Matlazinca, between the Mexica empire and the Purépecha zone of influence. Conquered by the Mexicas in 1474, the remains date from this period. Notable for the rounded bases of the Temple of Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl, with its tzompantli (wall of skulls).

Surrounded by hills that coincide with the points of the compass, the site reproduces the scheme of the pre-Hispanic universe. Its deities were the gods of fertility, the sun, the hills and water.
