The sacred landscape of Maxa Yaritsié, a southern portion of the Sierra de Catorce, is a remarkable pine and oak forest in the middle of the Chihuahua Desert. It is home to elements fundamental to the ritual, such as the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), the mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), and the golden eagle. The rugged topography of this area includes a series of mountains and deep ravines. Offerings are brought here and ceremonies are performed for the deities that inhabit this area, particularly for the deer and the eagle.
