Nihuetaritsié

Formed by two hills covered with yucca vegetation, it contains two sacred sites. It is also located on the high plateau of Villa de Ramos y Salinas.

It is an area located within the San Luis Potosí Highlands that comprises two adjacent hills, at an altitude of approximately 2,050 m. The predominant vegetation in this area is xerophytic scrub, with a notable abundance of izote palm (Yucca sp.).

This site has many names: Seseuhuipa, Siutulipa: Among young oaks; Jucutulipa: Among young pines; Xacixapa: Among pingüica plants (Arctostaphylos pungens); Yeimucuaripa: Among low grasses (yeimucuari); Uuparipa: Among chamomile plants.

The jicareros, or gourd carriers, wait for the souls of the ancestral deities, or cacauyaris, to descend. Everyone presents themselves before the deities. They grind tobacco and prepare a small bag, which they place in one of their ritual tobacco gourds, or yacuais. The pilgrimage guides lead them from here to perform the first cacería de jíkuri, the hunt for the endemic cactus known as peyote (Lophophora williamsii), an entheogen of great importance in the ritual cycle. In this area, they leave the offerings they previously presented at Tatei Matiniere.

Sacred sites:

  • Nihuetaritsie.
  • Eeca Teihuaritsie.
