Tocuila

Paleontological deposit, whose density in terms of elements recovered makes it one of the richest deposits of late Pleistocene and early Holocene fauna excavated to date in the entire American continent.

From C14 studies, an average date was derived that places the paleontological deposit of Tocuila around 11188 (+-76 ap.). Direct dating results on mammoth bone obtained from the same deposit and processed by AMS yielded a date of 11200 (+-80) ap. C.

It should be noted that among the approximately one thousand bone segments and fragments that have been recovered, there are 10 elements that are distinguished from the others by the morphology of their fractures, which indicate that they were subjected to a carving process with the intention of producing simple artifacts. The modified bones found in the paleontological site of Tocuila constitute one of the first evidences of Pleistocene bone technology for the Mexican plains.
