The hacienda of La Limpia Concepción de Palmitos de Abajo is located in the Palmitos Valley, in the present-day municipality of Rodeo, in the state of Durango. One of the first expeditions to this site was carried out by Juan de Oñate in 1596. Subsequently, the favorable characteristics of the area increased Spanish interest in occupation, as it boasts abundant water resources and fertile land suitable for wheat cultivation and fruit trees.

However, the colonization process was hindered by the climate of instability that prevailed in the region during the 17th century, as well as by attacks from the Toboso and Salinero indigenous groups.
In 1704, the haciendas of Palmitos de Arriba and Palmitos de Abajo were established in the area. During the second half of the 18th century, Palmitos de Abajo was recognized under the name Gûichapa, now Huichapa, and became the property of Bachelor Hermenegildo del Fierro, who commissioned the construction of the chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception.
The chapel of La Limpia Concepción de Palmitos de Abajo is a adobe construction. It consists of a single nave with an octagonal apse, which is accessed through a closed atrium with a stone cross at the entrance. The interior of the temple features an architectural element characteristic of religious spaces in New Mexico: the elevation of the apse roof above the nave. Inside the temple, you can see the pulpit, the holy water font, and two pedestals from the 18th century.
