The gallery in Guelatao, the Zapotec village where President Juárez was born, tells the story of his life with a selection of personal possessions, biographical and historical materials relating to the difficult period of Mexican history in which he lived.
The gallery pays tribute to Don Benito Juárez in his home town. As the name indicates, this is a modern building commemorating the figurehead of the Reform movement. It is on the actual site of his home and birthplace, and forms part of the present-day town hall. It was opened to the public in 1967. The exhibition tells the life story of Juárez, from his childhood in Guelateo to the presidency, with particular emphasis on the period he studied in the city of Oaxaca. It displays objects related to the great Mexican statesman including photographs, facsimiles of works, biographies, watercolors, prints and other personal effects.
