Zona arqueológica Boca de Potrerillos
Lugar
One of the most important prehistoric sites in northern Mexico, located in a desert landscape between mountains. It stands out for housing thousands of petroglyphs engraved in rock, which reflect the worldview of ancient groups of hunter-gatherers who inhabited the region for more than eight thousand years. This site allows us to understand the relationship of these cultures with nature, since its engravings are linked to rituals, hunting and phenomena such as the sun, rain and the cycles of life.
Without a doubt, the main attraction of this area is what was found on the slopes of the La Zorra and El Antrisco hills: more than 4,000 rocks that the indigenous people used as support for the creation of petroglyphs. In them, Valadez and his collaborators have recorded and studied in detail more than 17,000 rock images that reflect a complex conception of the natural environment and a cultural landscape very different from that which predominated in pre-Hispanic societies in the rest of the country.
