Palacio de los cilindros
Estructura
It is one of the largest buildings on the site. Its facade has a cantilevered staircase that facilitates circulation. This architectural solution saves material, facilitates passage and ventilation of the first floor. These stairways are common in the Puuc style and can be seen in Chacmultún, Uxmal and Kabah in Yucatán, or in the palaces of Tohcok (5 km west of Hopelchén) and in the Edificio de los Cinco Pisos in Edzná. The lateral tops of the cantilevered stairway resemble small constructions. Seen from the front or side, the cylinders give the impression of forming the walls and the access opening; the elements that cover them sometimes function as friezes or as upper walls.
