Plaza Norte
Estructura
It shows six partially uncovered buildings. Temple I is the largest. Among other structures that limit the North Plaza by the four cardinal points, Temple II stands out, located to the northeast of Temple I and identified as the Temple of the Clouds, which was reserved for the ceremonies to the god Chaak. The other buildings are related to religious activities, funerary spaces, as well as civil and administrative proceedings.
In the center of this space, oriented from east to west and delimited by several mounds, three altars were located. A funerary urn was also found with an offering that, among other objects, contained shell earrings and stingray stingers with glyphic inscriptions.
Upper staircase of Temple I: Here we can observe the representation of the skull of the goddess Ix Pakal Tunn, which looks towards the plaza and witnesses the sunrise daily.
Temple II or Temple of the Clouds: It is located at the northeast end of Temple I and is so called because it was the building where the high priest Aj Pakal Tahn performed ceremonies in honor of the rain deities.
