The exhibition brings together murals and easel paintings by Roberto Montenegro, as well as archival material. It is part of a series of exhibitions dedicated to revisiting the stories behind the murals in the collection of the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes.

This is a historiographical review focused on one of the pioneers of Mexican muralism, whose artistic output paved the way toward modernity, drawing on symbolism, Art Deco, folk art, and the exploration of the male body.

Comprising more than 90 pieces distributed across nine thematic sections, the exhibition explores little-known aspects of the Jalisco-born artist’s career, including his interest in diverse conceptions of masculinity, his promotion of Mexican folk art, and his humanist stances regarding the international conflicts of the 20th century.
