Un arete en el ombligo: La contracultura está en la casa
“A Piercing in the Navel” brings together four projects that will be on view at Ex Teresa Arte Actual throughout the summer. Through performances, painting, collage, textiles, site-specific interventions, and actions taking place in the venue’s various galleries, the exhibition invites a reflection on ornamentation beyond its decorative dimension. The spirit of the ornamental emerges here as a political stance and a strategy of resistance, capable of challenging aesthetic and cultural hierarchies.
The works explore the power of variegation, horror vacui, and accumulation as forms of symbolic construction, while also delving into the processes through which identity, desire, and belonging are shaped. Amid visual excesses, performative gestures, and appropriations of popular imagery, the interventions chart a course through the critical and affective possibilities of ornamentation.
Participating artists include La Santísima Kitsch, Pepx Romero, Frank López, and Farlopa, whose works engage in a dialogue through diverse languages and materials to activate the space as a body in constant transformation.
