The exhibition traces the journey of Natasha Zahalka and Jacques Gelman, who, over the course of more than five decades (1941–1998), built one of the most significant private collections of the 20th century. Their meeting in Mexico, against the backdrop of World War II, marked the beginning of a cultural and personal endeavor that led them to establish themselves as major patrons of the arts.

The collection they assembled was later divided into two major groups: the European collection, donated in 1998 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art following Natasha’s death, and the Mexican collection, which, after touring prominent international museums, returns to Mexico for exhibition.

Organized into four sections, the exhibition brings together foundational pieces from the collection alongside later acquisitions, creating a journey where painting and cinema intertwine. The exhibition offers an open interpretation in which the works establish connections between biographies, historical contexts, and artistic languages, highlighting Frida Kahlo as a symbolic figure who connects with and engages the rest of the collection.
