Centenario de El barco de la muerte
The Centennial of *The Ship of Death* commemorates the 100th anniversary of the publication of one of the most important novels in 20th-century German literature. Translated into more than 35 languages and with thousands of copies sold worldwide, this work cemented B. Traven’s international reputation.
The exhibition presents a chronology of the author’s life and a survey of the numerous editions of the novel published in different countries and eras. Among the highlights are the original manuscript of The Death Ship, written in pencil and in English; documents related to the first modern Mexican expeditions to Chiapas; fragments of the German film Das Totenschiff (1959), directed by Georg Tressler; and a model ship inspired by the novel.
The collections on display come from the B. Traven Estate, a private collection in Mexico City, the “Dr. Eusebio Dávalos Hurtado” National Library of Anthropology and History, and the INAH National Archaeology Archive.
