Discover the grandeur of Tula, one of the most iconic cities of ancient Mexico and a fundamental legacy of the Toltec civilization. Located in the state of Hidalgo, just an hour and a half from Mexico City, the Tula Archaeological Zone is one of the main landmarks of Mexico’s cultural heritage and an essential destination on the national and international cultural scene.

The ancient capital of the Toltec culture, Tula was an important political, religious, and military center that profoundly influenced later Mesoamerican civilizations. This iconic site was linked to the reign of Ce Ácatl Topiltzin Quetzalcóatl, a historical and mythical figure associated with a period of great cultural splendor and social development.

While touring the Tula Archaeological Zone, visitors can admire the famous Atlantean figures of Tula, monumental basalt sculptures over four meters tall that crown the main pyramid and depict ancient Toltec warriors. The tour also offers a glimpse into sites of great historical significance, such as the Burnt Palace, associated with the political and ceremonial activities of the ruling elite, as well as the Coatepantli or “Wall of Snakes,” notable for its impressive reliefs depicting snakes devouring skeletons—symbols of Mesoamerican ritual thought.

A visit to Tula offers a comprehensive experience that combines archaeological heritage, history, tradition, and regional cuisine. It is recommended to start the tour early and round out the experience by enjoying the traditional cuisine and cultural offerings of downtown Tula de Allende.
