Its size is a clue to its important role on the Huastec trading routes. There are around a hundred limestone plinths upon which we can assume houses were built with palm roofs and walls made from branches covered with mud.

In the foothills of the Sierra de Tamaulipas, it has more than 600 structures adapted to the irregular local terrain. The highlights are two enormous circular constructions and a pyramid with a ceremonial altar.

This ancient Huasteca city (1000 – 1250 AD) is situated in the urban area of Tampico, whose growth has destroyed most of the site. However, there still remains the remarkable Pyramid of the Flowers, the study of which has thrown light on this culture.
