The Uxmal Archeological Site Museum opened to the public in 1985. It had previously been known as the Ukit Bolom Museum. The building had an exhibition hall divided into two areas: 1. Environment and Architectural Style, and 2. The Material Heritage of the Inhabitants of Uxmal. Both display areas included pottery and stone artifacts.

After a conservation survey of the archeological finds was carried out in 2009, it was decided to remove them to prevent deterioration. From that point the Site Museum became a temporary exhibition space, the Uxmal Archeological Site Exhibition Hall.

Temporary photographic exhibitions have been held here since 2010. The topics covered have been diverse and linked to the archeological work at Uxmal, showing the cultural richness of the region, as well as the values and traditions of present-day Mayan people. The first exhibition, shown from 2009 to 2012 was titled "We are All United by the Sun". It arose from a partnership with NASA, the University of California at Berkeley, the state government, the Institute for the Development of Maya Culture (INDEMAYA) and the company Ideum.

The aim is to develop key topics for visitors to access on a variety of formats, providing information and enabling everyone to appreciate the treasures of the archeological site and Mayan culture.
