Lugar
The Regional Museum of Guadalajara is located in the heart of the city, on Liceo Street number 60. It is located in the old Tridentine Seminary of San José, built at the end of the 18th century, which stands out for its baroque façade, its central patio and its beautiful staircase.
The building had other uses over time, as a prison and barracks during the War of Independence, and a high school for men at the end of the 19th century. In 1918 it opened as a museum, in 1939 it was incorporated into the National Institute of Anthropology and History and in 1976 it was reopened with a new museography.
It offers temporary and permanent exhibitions, both national and international. Its collection is extensive; It is made up of paleontological and archaeological pieces, a large art gallery and two collections: historical and ethnographic. Currently they are working on a new restructuring, where a new script and a new museography are being considered, in order to celebrate their centenary of life in 2018.
