Under translation

This satire is set at the end of the Heian period, when there was an increase in Buddhist rituals aimed at legitimizing the interests of the imperial court in the face of the emerging warrior class. The work depicts a monkey personifying a monk and making an offering to a frog on a lotus, that is, to Buddha; while other animals pray, passing the beads of their rosaries.
