Margarita Avilés Flores

Graduate of the Faculty of Biological Sciences of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos. She participated in the INAH Ethnobotanical Project in 1978 and was in charge of the Ethnobotany Garden from 1982 to 2000. In 1994 she won an award for the National Medical Plant Collection from the Asociación Mexicana de Jardines Botánicos, A.C. She is in charge of the ethnobotany (medicinal plants) and multi-disciplinary research project which involves the disciplines of history, phytochemistry, pharmacology and biotechnology. She has taken part in academic conferences and forums in Mexico and abroad, and has published scientific and popular articles. She has also given guided tours, courses, conferences and has been advisor to various projects connected to ethnobotany and botanical gardens.
