This archaeological site is located at the top of Cerro de la Estrella, in Iztapalapa. The ancient inhabitants of the central Altiplano called this place Huizachtepetl." This site was of utmost importance because every 52 years the ceremony of the New Fire or binding of years (xiuhmolpilli) was carried out in it, in order to regenerate time and the Sun.

Investigations revealed that this settlement had a long sequence of occupation, from the Preclassic period (1000 BC) to the conquest of Mexico in 1521. The first settlers of the site settled on the slopes of Cerro de la Estrella, establishing themselves in small villages with incipient agriculture. Between 600 and 900 they built numerous structures to meet the increase in population. Some chroniclers such as Bernardino de Sahagún, Toribio Benavente Motolinía and Juan de Torquemada mention the arrival of Chichimec groups that settled in the western section of the hill between 900 and 1300, founding the city of Culhuacán.
