Archeology graduate of the National School of Anthropology and History with an MA in Anthropology from the ENAH and a PhD in Mesoamerican Studies from the UNAM. He has worked for the National Institute of Anthropology and History in the southeast of Mexico since 1974. He has carried out research, excavations and architectural restoration in various sites of the Yucatan peninsula. From 1974 to 1980 he worked on some Mayan cities in Quintana Roo including Coba, Tulum, Xelha, Ecab and Punta Laguna. His work in Yucatan from 1980 to 1985 included pre-Columbian settlements such as Chacmultun, Labna, Kabah and Oxkintok. His archeological work in Campeche from 1985 to 2016 has taken him to pre-Hispanic sites including Xcalumkin, Becan, Okolhuitz, Santa Rosa Xtampak, Tabasqueño and Kanki. In recent years he has directed research and architectural conservation work at Jaina and Edzna.At the same time he supervises the MANZANA project, a major maintenance program for the conservation of a good number of unknown buildings in sites not open to the public, in places such as Chelemi, Ichmac, Chunyaxnic, Yaxche-Xlabpak, Balche, Sisila, Sabana Piletas, Seis Picos, Chunchimay, Xuelen, Xkankabil and Hwasil. His publications include several books, numerous articles, book reviews and some translations, both specialist and popular.
