ENAH Archeology graduate in 1965 and UNAM MA in Anthropology from the same year. He undertook general geology and prehistory studies at the University of Bordeaux, France (1966-1967), and also at the UNAM Faculty of Engineering (1956-1959). He has taught advanced technique at ENAH since 1965 and became a distinguished research Professor in 2012. He has been a member of the National Research System since 1986 and reached level 9 on the INAH Productivity Incentive Program. He has served as the founder and head of the Archeological Rescue Department, director of Pre-Hispanic Monuments, Director of Archeology, member for several periods and also president of the Archeology Council.

He has carried out field archeology excavations in Mexico, Peru and the southwest of France, notably in the Tehuacan Archeology-Botany Project, the Ayacucho-Huanta Project, the Puebla-Tlaxcala Archeology Project, the Southwest Puebla Archeology Project and the Cantona Archeology Project from 1992 to the present. He is also currently taking part in the Tehuacan Archeology-Botany Rescue Project, and the genetic study of the origins and domestication of corn. He has published more than 187 academic and popular texts (articles, essays, chapters and books).
