He took a BA in Archeology and an MA in Architecture. His undergraduate thesis researched the hydraulic systems of Uxmal, which earned him a distinction in INAH’s Alfonso Caso Prize. He wrote on the Restoration of the Temple of the Magician at Uxmal for his MA thesis at the Autonomous University of Yucatan His professional work has included the establishment of a database on the Archeological Atlas of the state of Yucatán using a geographical information system, and he has worked on architectural restoration on the Chichen Itza site. He is currently Director of the Uxmal archeological site and of the Puuc Route in Yucatan. He is also the director of the archeological project for the comprehensive restoration of the Mayan communities of San Simón, Santa Elena and Muna.
Member of the INAH National Archeology Council, he has researched archeoastronomy at several Mayan sites, especially at Dzibilchaltun, Uxmal and Chichen Itza. He has presented countless papers at national and international meetings, and has published a variety of articles on his specialist topics. He has also worked with the University of California at Berkeley, the San Francisco Exploratorium and with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States, specifically for internet broadcasts in connection with the equinox alignment of Kukulkan at El Castillo, Chichen Itza.
